Any ideas? I have used liveupdate to update the server to Hotfix 6, I then deployed the agent via a push.

If this is a remote install of SPS, I would remove and reinstall the Remote Agent first as the first step. If this doesn't fix the problem, you may want to stop all non-essential services on this server to see if something else like anti-virus software is interfering.

I am having the same issue with the Sharepoint Agent. crashing the beremote.exe process. I was attempting to narrow some things down last night and it only happens if I try to backup more than one of the SP databases at a time. I was able to back up all 4 databases successfully when I ran 4 separate jobs. If i add any 2 of the 4 databases to the job it crashes the agent on the SQL Server. However I can backup all the other databases residing on the SQL server using the sql agent without any issues as long as I leave the Sharepoint selections unchecked. I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the agent with no luck. I guess it is time to open up a case.

Couple more observations

1. If I turn off the AOFO option all the databases backup fine through the Sharepoint Agent.
2. If I leave the AOFO option turned on and use the SQL agent for all the same sharepoint databases they back up fine.

So the agent only crashes on the SQl Server when I use both the AOFO option and the sharepoint agent. I find it strange that it works fine using AOFO and SQL Agent
