Slow Backup

Hi,

We having an issue with the slow backup with BE 2010 of our SAN, I did spend alot of time on this issue and finally findout that once a twee at sunday when Mcafee of the server scan the files on SAN then the speed of the job get slow and slower so I decided to only test this idea I did disable the Mcafee job that scan the files every sunday for the past 2 weeks and I have to say that de speed is not very hight under 1000 GB but still for us is acceptable.

Question remaning how can we solve this issue? we dont want to shutdown the scanning process of the files on the SAN by mcafee.

Also we did already exclud C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\RAWS\beremote.exe on the SAN server that host the SAN, without any good result.

I wolud like to know if anyone els also had this issue and how did you solved it.

Thanks

Instead of shutting down the McAfee services, add the BE directories and processes as exclusions to the McAfee scans.

Use these KBs as well

Hi Vj,

Thanks for your update,

I did not disable the mcafee services on this server, the On demand scan still running on this machine also I did create a jon that called quick scan and run one every 2 hours and it scan only registry and runing process.

problem I think the full scan that weekly runs on the server that hosts the SAN, this job scan only the drives of the host server and the drives of the SAN. the host server of the SAN is not the media server and we install windows agent on this server so I cannot follow your artical at exculd these

C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\beremote.exe
C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\beserver.exe
C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\bengine.exe
C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\benetns.exe
C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\pvlsvr.exe
C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\BkUpexec.exe

becuse I can just find the file and one more just to be sure I did exclude the

C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\*.*

but no change there.

also it is best practice to exclude the b2d locations from the scan
