We are in the process of migrating our backups to disk. I have built a server which has RAID level 1 and all internal drives are SATA2. We use Windows 2003 Standard and Backup Exec 10d. I was expecting phenomenal speeds compared to our existing tape backup, however im sadly mistaken.
After many hours working out why the job rate is so slow, i decided to disable the McAfee VirusScan application on both the source server and the backup server. The results were excellent, we were reaching throughput of about 2000Mb/min, compared to when the application is enabled and reaches a measly 58Mb/min.
I dont really want to disable the virus application when we backup for obvious reasons, but would like to know whether there is a fix for this or a workaround.
