Slow verify in BE 8.6

I'm running BE 8.6 on a Windows 2003 Server box. It has an Overland LoaderXpress tape loader with a DLT 4000 tape drive. I've just backed up 160 Gb to 5 tapes, at about 250 Mb/s and it started a verify, but was running at about 12.5 Mb/s which will take days (or weeks) to complete.

Is this a known issue? This is 8.6 rev 3878.

A second head clean and erasing all the tapes seems to have fixed this.
