Syamntec 2010 R3 jobs fail verify with new tape device now

We just changed the tape device to a new 1/8 G3 autoloader. Since then when I try to run the backup jobs, the data gets backed up but the verify sits there for a while and then fails.

This what the error is:

Storage device "HP 0003" reported an error on a request to write data to media.
Error reported:
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
V-79-57344-34029 - A hardware error occurred.

This is happening also with the backup running by itself without the verify on...

Any ideas would be great?

Could be faulty scsi cabling...if using HP Management or Insight, try disabling them for a backup..

Also, check the system event logs for any event 5, 7, 9, 11 or 15....
