Tape Drive and Drivers

I have an Exabyte lto 1x7 tape drive installed on a W2k3 standard OS and I'm running backupexec 10d. The application can not communicate with the tape drive. In windows /device manager the hardware is running properly no issues there and in event viewer. Please help
