Tape Encryption

Management is questioning me whether it's possible or not to somehow secure my tapes either through encryption or another means so that when we send them off site we are the only ones that have access to the data should the tape fall off the back of the truck or something.

Thoughts and ideas?

I don't beleive this is possible.

Really, no amount of technical security compares to physical security. We place our tapes in a locked money box when they are moved offsite. It's probably the best management could hope for.

It is not possible to encrypt data using backup exec, but you may password portect the media. Refer to:
