In Addition to what Ray said:
1) Please check if your device configuration is compatible with Veritas BEWS. Our Hardware Compatibility List:

If your configuration doesn't match with our HCL then install the device drivers of the H/w provider otherwise install the latest Veritas drivers.support.veritas.com/menu_ddProduct_BEWNT_view_DOWNLOAD.htm
2) Please make sure that the firmware of the tape drive and changer and the drivers of the scsi controller are updated!
