The network connection to Remote Agent has been lost

I have a client who has Microsoft SBS 2003 with B/Exec 9.1 SBS Rev 4691with SP2 & Hotfix 47 applied

Just recently whenever the Exchange mailboxes are selected in the backup the clients backup will fail with the following error in the job log:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The media operation was terminated by the user.
Error reading file data.
Error reading file data.
The network connection to the Backup Exec Remote Agent has been lost. Please check for network errors.
A timeout occurred waiting for completion of media server data processing
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I have downloaded all of the patches I could find (up until a few weeks ago) but nothing seems to be able to get rid of the error other than deselecting the mailbox backup.

I have searched as best I can to find an answer but so far have not found anything that comes close.

any help would be greatly appreciated.Message was edited by:

Hello,

This error could be occurring due to Remote agent timeouts
Please perform the following steps:

1. Confirm that the Remote Agent is installed, running, at the latest revision of Backup Exec, and that another application running is not blocking or conflicting with the same ports the Remote Agent uses.
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/255500.htm

2. Run the Windows Error Checking and Disk Defragmentation Utilities on the remote server to confirm that the backup is not hanging on a heavily fragmented hard disk or a bad disk block.
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/237444.htm

3. Update the Network Card Drivers on the media server and remote machine. Make sure also that the Link Speed/Duplex Values are set properly on all machines and that networking errors are not occurring in the Windows Event Viewer Logs. Check the event logs also for any other warnings, errors, or normal events that may take place when the backups run.

Please refer to the technote given below which would help lower the Remote agent priority.

Hope this helps you.

Regards,

The Media server and remote agent are both on the same server.

This problem has only recently arrisen and everything was working perfectly prior to the problem occurring.

Hello,

1. Please check if you remote agent service runs under the account: LSA if not it should be changed to LSA.

2. Are you sending a notification after the job completes, if yes are you also sending the job log with it?

3. If yes under tools> options> job logs check the first option: 'include summary information only'

4. Under tools >options >preferences uncheck option 'display progress indicators for job'.
