You may make use of the Backup Exec reports (Custom or canned)  which will show the frequency of

errors.

You should be able to run a report through Backup Exec under "reports".  Depending on what you want to do you can create custom reports as well.  These can show a Summary of a Job to only failed Backup Jobs and everything in between.

We created a powershell script to run after the backup (post-command). It will examine the last saved XML file (C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Data) and try to find the following string "Remote Agent not detected on" if it finds an email will be sent to administrators of the backup.

Do not know if this was the best, but it is pretty consistent so far.

Thanks.
