I have just upgraded from backup exec 10 5520 to 10d. Its running on windows server 2003. When trying to restore data from any time of media (tape or disk) I get the error "unable to create selection list."

This has only started hapening since upgrading to 10d. All backup jobs run fine but i cannot restore from anything! even from backup jobs created before the upgrade. sgmon shows the following:

Hello,

As a test, please create a new backup job and then try to restore it. Check if you are getting the same error.

Regards,

tI have tried this and it has not worked. I have also tried to rename to catalogs folder, inventory and catalog the b2d folders, restart services, restart computer, nothing works.

Were you ever able to get this fixed. I'm having the exact same problem.

Need to reload the backup exec database from base or backup using beutility

I too have exactly the same problem after upgrading to 10d. I wonder if this is a bug that Symantec introduced. A search of the KB seems to indicate that they've had this problem before.

I attempted a restore from backup and a restore from base and both completed successfully but my problem continues. I've tried stopping all services and renaming the catalog folder restarting services then repeating that to re-index. I've made sure I have plenty of disk space and that the security is allowing write access.

I'm stuck....

Do you still have the problem or have you been able to fix it? Anyone have any success placing a call to their support? Do you pay per call?

The way i fixed trhis problem was to use a blank database and i had to recreate all the jobs. The problem was the upgrade to 10d corrupted the database.

You can make a new database from the beutility. Reload it from base i think will do the trick.

Did you have to re-catalog all your existing jobs after making a new database from 'base'? I did re-create the new database and wasn't able to do a restore with existing catalogs?

I've exactly the same problem with BackupExex 10 Rev 5484 sp4 in a windows 2003 server.

I've recreate the indexes and catalogs two times which costs me 40 hour each time. but no difference.

It seems that symantec is going to do nothing for this problem!

Please sombody help if found anything.

Thanks,

Bingo,

At last, reinstalling the program, solved my problem.

I made a clean install (of 10d version of BackupExec) . Then copied the catalog folder to this new installation. and after an inventory job, I could restore my data.
