Unix/linux Agent Crashing after backup

I am currently trying to get backupexec 10d working 100% in backing up our linux servers. We are currently using rhel 5
Linux apollo 2.6.18-8.1.8.el5 #1 SMP Mon Jun 25 17:06:19 EDT 2007 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux
and
Q180968.BE.RALUS.10.1.5629.3.

When I start a job that backs up the linux servers, i see the job status running but no bytes changing. Also when i look on the console of the linux server i see it has crashed and displayed this error.

[root@apollo init.d]# *** glibc detected *** /opt/VRTSralus/bin/beremote: realloc(): invalid next size: 0x088d4758 ***

When we try and change the jobs selection for the linux server, i get this error
"An error was encounted while attempting to browse the contents of \\apollo.

This function is not implemented"

Any suggestions?

Hi,
I have SLES10 and I have the same problem: I solved it moving backup user form local usere to system user's
(beoper group is created during installation in local user, it's ok).
Be sure that backup user is in beoper and root groups.

The last suggestion is to allow to all to execute the startup script to run the agent:

>chmod a+x /etc/init.d/VRTSralus.init

bye

I have the same problem, reported it here many months ago and the issue has never been resolved. I have 2 identical servers, so DVD use to install SLES10, same hardware, on one server all works fine, on the other I get the same error you have reported.

I have tried all trouble shooting solutions and all didn't work.

I contacted our supplier, they have some sort of support relationship with Symantec, so they contacted Symantec many months ago and I'm still awaitng a solution. They have a full debug report to work with, but I still wait.

I asked my supplier only last week, how is my very long term issue going, he said theat Symantec have acknowledge they have an issue with the Ralus agent, but wouldn't elaborate further.

If you get it to work I would be very interested in knowing how did it as I assuming I'm on my own with this one, with regards fixing it.

to tell you the truth I dont know what i did to fix it. I did do some update to the os and rebooted and now its working. I also did chmod a+x init file, but i dont believe that would make any different becuase that just allows every one to execute the init file.

I didnt report it as i know the track record of getting replies and stuff.
I did a back up on friday and it worked. I am going to slowly add more to the daily jobs this week to see what happens.

I currently have kernel version Linux apollo 2.6.18-8.1.8.el5. Not sure if it has changed since my last post
