Unknown or unexpected database error

I am receiving the following error message: "An unknown or unexpected database error occurred while attempting a DBCC. DBCC results for 'master'." I am assuming that DBCC is DataBase Consistency Check. What do I need to look for to correct this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The SQL Consistency Checks run by Backup Exec will depend on the version of SQL that is being protected
- For SQL Server v6.0: CHECKDB, CHECKCATALOG, NEWALLOC.
- For SQL Server v6.5: CHECKDB, CHECKCATALOG, NEWALLOC, CHECKTABLE.
- For SQL Server v7.0 and later: CHECKDB, CHECKCATALOG, CHECKFILEGROUP.
