Upgrading Backup Exec from 8.6 to 10

What is the best way to install or upgrade from Backup Exec 8.6 to 10? Will I have to recreate all my backup jobs or can I export them and import them back into version 10?

I have the same question. I found this link http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/265163.htm but I still have doubts regarding what will happen if I simply install over 8.6. What about the remote agents? Should I remove them or overwrite the installation?

If anyone could help...

Thanks
John

I have seen those documents before but they don't quite answer my questions:
- Can I install the remote agents over the current one or should I remove from each server and install the new version?
- What is the best option for installing v10: upgrade or remove old and fresh install
- Issues after upgrading?

The doc http://support.veritas.com/docs/265163 says you have to install 8.6 if upgrading from 7.x. So I'm assuming that the upgrade runs flawlessly. Does Veritas acknowledge that?

Thank you
John

The upgrade works fine ( 99 % )

Ensure a healthy PVL.MDB of version 8.6 prior to the update. (You might run a repair or a reinstall of BENT 8.6 to ensure this.)

Backup the files as stated in the earlier answers ( catalogs, pvl.mdb etc. )

All Jobs, Mediasets etc. will be kept and will work with BEWS 10.

In case of problems, run BEMIG.EXE manually after the update.
See : http://support.veritas.com/docs/263927

and : http://support.veritas.com/docs/267057

these documents are related to the update 8.6 to 9.1 but are valid for 10.0 as well, as to my own experience.

I have not upgraded yet, but your feed back has been valuable! I will probably be upgrading this week sometime.
Thanks for your feedback

How do I check that I have a healthy PVL.MDB of version 8.6 prior to the update to version 10?

You may check : http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/241430.htm

... or reinstall the BENT 8.6 (latest build) over your existing
installation.
