...if you're going to continue running Backup Exec 2010 R2 on that Exchange server, you don't need to uninstall/reinstall.

All you need to do is license the software via Tools --> Install Options and License Keys on this Media Server...

Put your licenses in, and it will run as per normal.

If you haven't run LiveUpdate, do so as this patches your installation.

No need for any long-winded work using this method...

What is the version of Backup exec presently you are using?

As you said it is a trial version, i don't think there is a need of upgrading. You can perform a fresh installation of backup exec 2010 R2 and once done you can import the existing catalogs and other configurations.

Refer the below TN for importing catalogs procedure: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH68896

Take a copy of DATA folder inside the BE installation directory along with CATALOGS. By copying DATA folder from old installation of BE to new installation, you will get the earlier configuration back.

Uninstall the existing BE from the server, reboot it and then install the latest.

For installation of Backup exec 2010 you can refer the following video: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/videos/backup-exec-2010-installation

IF you just have remote agnet installed on the exchage server you just need to install the remote agent again (you can either push install or do a local install of remote agent). Upgrage for backup is in place so you just need to run the wizard , install the license key you have and that should be it .
