Upgrading Remote Agents for Windows

Hi All,

 This should be a simple operation BUT as with anything there are issues.

We have upgraded BUEx 2010 r2 to r3, now i want to upgrade the clients.

The problem is when i am trying to upgrade agents 13.0.2896  to 13.0.5204 on Win2K3 SP2 (x86 or x64).  Older clients upgrade, newer servers upgrade, just  the combination above is causing me problems.

Here my log file;

The first attempt failed so i copied across the dotnetfx file into the path requested, then i get the second error.

Other than the above I have tried to:

install dotnet3.5 separately from redistributable.

Push the client from the media server.

Pat my head and rubbed my tummy....(just in case).

All halp appreciated.

Thanks in Advance.

Just went through something similar last week. I couldn't install .Net FX 3.5 off the BE CD, Tried copying it twice, but it kept on failing. When I tried to run a repair of the .Net version installed, it gave me an error.

So...check which version of .Net you have on your server first, and download the same version just in case. Run a repair of your installation. If it mentions files that don't exist, extract your downloaded version, and point the repair to that file. Once it completes, try reinstalling 3.5 again.

If this doesn't work, download 3.5 from the MS site and use that and see if it works.

Have you tried uninstalling the .Net framework first before installing .Net 3.5 from the distribution DVD?

Thanks for your replies, in the end;

There are two separate problems, although the environment looked similar and the failures were similar, there were two major differences.

The fixes are as follows;

1) Where Dotnet 3.5 exists, through Add/Remove Programs repair DotNet 3.5 Installation, then run agent upgrade. (Reboot not required).

2) Where Dotnet 3.5 not exists, run the DotNet35 installer manually, then run agent upgrade. (I didn't do a reboot after Dotnet35 installatin but it is preferable).

Thanks for your help, i hope this post helps others.
