Using FC to backup

London_Deanery
Level 2
We have just started testing a new backup device connected by fibre rather than SCSI and are having the odd problem.

We are using the following setup:

Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise, SP2, running Backup Exec 11d 7170 on server
Dell Powervault TL4000 LTO3 backup device
They are directly connected using FC, 2GBPs link speed

I am getting some unexpectedly variable results with throughput. A backup of the backup server gave me just short of 1Gb a minute; remote file servers are coming out between 250Mb and 500Mb a minute; a remote Exchange store over 1Gb a minute. Obviously there are all manner of other factors at work here, but compared to the previous SCSI attached drive, the throughput is not dramatically better.

Do we need anything extra configured in Backup Exec itself? I've applied all the BE updates and the tape device drivers as well.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Thanks, Matt Sawyer
