VBE10/AOFO/ORACLE

Hi,

We have a Win2k server which hosts 3 IIS websites with an oracle database on the backend. VBE v10 is installed along with AOFO, Oracle and IDR agents.

We are constantly getting the message that the backup was completed but with exceptions. I have tried reducing the AOFO time from 5 seconds to 3 but that made no difference. I have tried various backup times but that made no difference either.

I have created batch files which include shutdown commands which shut the database down before the backup process begins but they don't work. I have entered these as VBE pre/post commands as well as scheduled tasks but to no avail.

I did this because Veritas complains about too much disk usage.

ERROR MESSAGE:

Hello,

- This still shows that the quiet time is 5 seconds. Please refer the following technote.
Title:
How to lower the Minimum Quiet Time setting for the Advance Open File Option (AOFO) in Backup Exec 9.x and 10.x
http://support.veritas.com/docs/274305

- Create separate selection lists for your databases, normal files, etc.

- Additionally you may refer the following technote.
Title:
How to get Advanced Open File Option to snap one volume at a time during multi-volume backups

just to be sure, you are not running the AOFO on the oracle server ?! It is just that your BE server as well holds an oracle agent license, but the oracle server itself is a seperate remote server.

You should never run AOFO on a server where an online oracle instance is running. (at least not on the volumes that oracle is using.)

Hello,

With referance to the error you received regarding AOFO, we need to know if the replies in the previous two posts have helped resolve the problem or does it still persist?

Adding to the previous reply, also refer to the following technote which talks of the use of AOFO with applications for which Backup Exec provides an agent:

Title: What is the intended use of the Open File Option and the Advanced Open File Option?
http://support.veritas.com/docs/263784

Do update us on the status of the problem.
