Are you current on firmware and drivers for the Tape device and the controller?

Have you tried swapping terminators and/or cables?

Have you run any mfg diagnostics against the drive? (If it really has been working for "ages" the drive could be going bad)

Hi Ken,

Seems odd, the drive went bad 1 month ago as it kept spitting out tapes, was replaced by dell and now this? - atleast its not spitting out tapes i guess. They replaced cables and the drive as far as I recall. How Do I go about this MFG thing? where do I get it from. its an internal drive on a dell xeon 1800 server.

Thanks for your help.

mfg = manufacturer as opposed to some generic diags

You should be able to download some diagnostics from the DELL Support site
