Why Wouldn't You Want to Use Compression?

Is there any reason I would not want to use hardware and software compression on my backups?

Software compression uses a lot of processor (CPU) power.
Hardware compression is always a good thing. There might be a rare occurrence of incompatibility between tape drive/drivers that could create a situation where you would be unable to restore data that was recorded in compressed format, but I have never encountered this.

Hello,

To know more about Harware Compression and Software Compression, please refer to the following technote:

Backups fail to get double the amount of the native capacity recorded to a media, even when hardware compression is being utilized.

Hope this helps you.
