Why can't I back up NSF and NTF files?

If I don't have the Domino agent and wish to stop the Domino process, back the data files up, then restart Domino, BE frustrates this by simply ignoring .NSF and .NTF files and then lying by saying "backup successful".

Why?

I think this would be due to what's called Active File Exclusion, which basically gets Backup Exec to automatically skip those files which it assumes can't be backed up since they would be in use, eg database files. I don't use Domino so can't be sure it's the same, but it certainly is for SQL Server.

Have a look at http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/242688.htm for more info (relates to SQL but the same should work for you with Oracle) and how to turn it off.

I agree with Keith's assessment that the files are being skipped due to the Active File Exclusions Feature. If you want to perform an offline backup, just disable that feature using the following technote:http://support.veritas.com/docs/259152
