Why is my media set moved to scratch media

I use version 10d. I configured duplicate jobs. Backup to disk first, and then from disk to tape.

Media Sets----------------Backup 2 disk--------------Backup 2 Tape
Overwrite protection-------6hours-------------------------2 days
Append period----------infinite-Allow Append-------infinite-Allow Append

How come that part of my media sets is visible in the scratch media??
Because you cannot append to scratch media, i do get errors some time..
I have never moved a media to de scratch media.

If i format a harddrive, how can i then delete the medialabels in backup exec that where on that disk?

Media would be moved to the scratch pool if you erased it.

If you are getting errors regarding scratch media, check the Device & Media settings within the jobs and see if you have it set to Append to Media, Overwrite if no media is avaialble.

The option you suggest is the one i already checked.
Everyday i do a quick erase of the tapes, so that means that i have to move them every day from scratch media to the appropiate media set, because on scratch media you cannot append.

Do i have to erase the tapes are do a inventory before the jobs start?

I'm not sure I understand what you are doing- You perform a quick erase of the tapes before using them- why? If they are more than 2 days old, they are overwritable.

If you must quick erase the tapes (because they are less than 2 days old) then they will go to the scratch pool. Backup Exec will automatically pull a tape from the scratch pool into the job's defined media set when the job starts, if there is no more appendable media.

This article has all the information you need regarding this behavior:

Thanx for that document.Came to understand this a little better.
Because of errors like the one below i erase tapes, but still sometime get the error.

Duplicate
The query for media sequence number 2 of this media family was unsuccessful.
Ensure that all media in the family have been inventoried and cataloged.
V-79-57344-65072 - The connection to target system has been lost. Backup set canceled

I already read http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/275607.htm and i have the correct registry setting.

Another issue:
Like i said i do duplicate jobs. I have 9 HD partitions for the backup 2 Disk jobs. Some partitions are used by multiple jobs.
After 2 are 3 days these partitions are full, and jobs are queued, because there is no diskspace.
I used the option, Append media, overwrite if no appendable media is available

Do i have to use the overwrite option for the Backup 2 Disk jobs? Is it only the associate *.bkf file that is overwritten, are is the HD wiped out, and then the jobs starts?

I thought that the media sets being in the scratch media caused those problems, but i know better now.
Hopefully you can help
Thanx
