Workaround to Backing up Exchange in Backup Exec Quick Start Edition

I've heard that as a workaround to backing up Exchange in BE QSE you can shut down Exchange while the Backup is running, and only if you have applied the tweak to disable AFE (Autmatic File Exclusion).

Is this simply creating a scheduled windows batch file to stop Exchange services before the backup begins and then start them again after the backup completes?

Can I also do this with SQL to backup MDF/LDF databases?

How do you disable AFE?

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated as I have an all in one server which needs complete backup and I only have BE QSE
