a000fec9 error and unusually long backup

Since installing the be4691RHF54_278467 hotfix and be4691RSP3_278302 service pack last week, my daily updates keep generating the following errror: a000fec9 - A failure occurred accessing the Writer metadata. In addition, my backups are now taking an inordinate amount of time to run. I'm currently 11 hours into one that started last night at 10pm and is only 35% complete in the verify process.

Per other posts and knowledge base article http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/264350.htm I have checked the VSS setting on the remote and local server to verify that they are both set to manual.

Per article http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/261993.htm I have also verified that there are no errors.

In addition, I have rebooted the server numerous times.

Please advise.

Hi.

What is the version of your OS that is on your media server? How many servers are you backing up in your enviroment?
After deploying SP3, have your updated your remote agents?

Hello,

Generally This problem may occur if the Volume Shadow Copy Service on either the backup server or remote server is disabled.

This can be resolved by setting the startup type for the Volume Shadow Copy Service to Manual.

Refer the following Technote for the same.

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/264350.htm

After installing SP3 it is necessary to upgrad the remote agent on all the remote servers.

-- Also try executing the same backup using windows ntbackup utility to isolate the cause of the issue.

Thanks but that was not helpful. Per my initial post I have already read article 264350 and ensured that VSS was indeed set to manual.

I have also checked my remote agent settings and think that I have upgraded them correctly. What are the steps to confirm that the remote agent has successfully been upgraded for SP3?

Hello,

After installing SP3 you can update the remote agents by doing a silent install with the help of the technote below:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/265736

Also as mentioned in the technote :261993 please try taking a backup using the native backup utility.

Thanks,

Thanks but that did not fix the problem either.

Just to clarify a few points. I am running BE 9.1 with SP3 on an SBS 2003 Premium box.

On my remote 2003 server, I have uninstalled and reinstalled BE Remote Agent so that it is currently version 9.1.4691.0 and installed in the \Veritas\Backup Exec\RANT folder

The VSS setting on the remote and local servers are both set to manual.

Per article http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/261993.htm I have also verified that there are no VSS errors.
