back up strategy

Could I use a combination of full back ups, differential back ups and incremental back ups.  Is that possible?

Yes it is possible. It's common to have a combination of fulls and incrementals, or a combination of fulls and differentials. It's not so common to have a mix of all 3, but it's perfectly possible.
