backup doesn't start

I have the following problem, OS w2k3, backup exec version 9.1 build 4691.
when job is starting the shadow copy command are ok, but backup isnt starting (xml file is also corrupted) but after 15 min i get Exchange error (event id 7200/1031). these error keep apperaring until the server is rebooted. This happens once in a while, nothing changed but this suddenly appears. After reboot i could be that it works again...but i want to know what causses it.
I'm planning to install sp3 for backup exec....
Anyone a better suggestion...i'm stuck
