backups fail - corrupt items in ex2003 public folders?

I seem to have the problem as described here:

I am getting errors such as:
Directory not found. Can not backup directory School Daily Bulletins瑩浥⁳㔰〭6ā12ǜꡠǜ and its subdirectories.
Specifically, I always get an error that starts with "school daily bulletin", and ends with jibberish.

However, I do not have any event 9646 entries on my exchange server during the backup time, or any other event log entries indicating any problems.

I have run an offline repair of this database and found no problems. Likewise, users report no problems accessing the public folders.

Running BE 9.1 with newest service pack. Backup server is W2000, exchange server is ex2003 enterprise running on W2003.

Hi Jeff,

Is the Anti-virus running during the backup?

If yes then please disable it and then check if you are still getting the same error.

You can also try the backup with NTbackup.
