I have rebooted the system, updated BE 11D to the most recent service pack and hot fixes. Any insight on this? Or any clues on where to start?

Hi

I am getting similar problems ,the bengine crashes intermitently during backups.
We implemented the Backupexec 11D system 3 months ago and the problem has been there since day 1.

The longest it worked was for 29 days (19/06/2007 to 20/06/2007) without any bengine issues.

To date the longest the system runs without a bengine crash is a week at the most.
After the bengine has crashed I need to power down servers and all the devices otherwise the bengine crashes on a daily basis.

Intially the system consisted of 3 servers , 1 caso and 2 MMS servers.
The MMS servers were both attached to the Dell Powervault ML6020 (4 X LTO3 Dirves) Fibre Channel device.
Each server had  a QLA2340 Fibre channel HBA card which connected the servers to the ML6020 via an EMC Brokade SilkWorm 200E.

The error in the event logs used to give the following error:

The Backupexec service bengine stops during backups (intermitent) ,
event log error "Faulting application bengine.exe 11.0.7170.0, faulting module bengine.exe, version 11.0.7170.0,fault address 0x00140ba6.

I logged an case with Symantec about 3 weeks ago and I have made many changes to the configuration as adviced by a Symantec engineer but nothing has solved the bengine crashes.

The system now only consists of a standalone server with a QLA2340 HBA card directly connected to the DELL Powervault ML6020  via the EMC Brokade SilkWorm 200E switch.

When the bengine carashes I get an error in the system event log there is an event saying that the Backupexec engine terminated unexpectedly - event id 7031.
I also get the alert in Backupexec saying that that the drive is offlline.

There must be more people out there experiencing bengine issues.
This seems to be a general problem with Backupexec 11D.

Hope we get this problem solved some day ,I am considering using  software from a different vendor.

Paul

After 3 Months of Battling and suspecting the hardware,it turns out that the Open file option for the Netware remote agent is the cause of the problem.

Symantec has ientified this as being a bug and the problem has been excalated to the developers.

I hope that they will come up with a fix for the problem.
