bemcmd inventory

I am having an issue trying to use bemcmd to inventory a single slot in my library (Backup Exec 11.d). The command I am using is:
bemcmd -o103 -a"OVERLAND 1" -s40 -w

This does perform an inventory, but it inventories the entire library. I have tried different values and ranges, however I still can not inventory a single slot.

It would be my guess that "OVERLAND 1" is the name of your loader, and not the name of the tape device within your loader.

Your command looks spot on to me, certainly with v8, 9 or 10 I'd expect it to work.

I don't have a v11 install to check on, so can you run the following bemcmd command on your media server and post the response :

bemcmd -? -o103

that'll chuck out the syntax for the command so we can just confirm that the syntax hasn't changed with v11.

Yes, "OVERLAND 1" is the name of my changer/library

Geoff,

It may be outputting everything because its unhappy with slot 40. Try using o85 or o86 to make sure that is a valid slot.

I tried your suggestion and even tested it from the GUI. Slot 40 is a valid slot with a valid tape.

How many slots does your library have in total? Is it 40 or more than that? If so does the Backup Exec GUI show slot 40 within Device Management, or only go up to 39?

We've got a 20 slot autoloader, however the 20th slot is technically designated as a mail slot, so even though I can physically put a tape into it, it doesn't get displayed within Backup Exec, and can't be inventoried. So I was just wondering if your situation could be the same. Have you tried doing an inventory of any other individual slot?

Keith,

The library has 120 slots and the GUI does recognize all 120 slots.
