changing the device to which backups are written

Good Morning All,

Here is a little background information on the way I do backups:
  • I have approximately 100 backup jobs and 100 corresponding duplicate jobs
  • Each backup job writes to an online backup folder, then the corresponding duplicate job writes to tape

Every Friday I create a new online backup folder for the coming week.  I then have to go into each backup job and point the job to the new online folder.  Is there a way to repoint all of the jobs to the new folder at once?  It gets a bit tedious going into each job every week to repoint it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Nick

This sounds interesting, this could be done but I've not tried it.

You can try using the bemcmd feature of Backup Exec. It is a command line utility which can automate this to an extent. Also, you can create batch files, but then it would require changing the values in the batch file.

How about sending all of your backup jobs to a folder called \current.  At the end of each week change the \current directory name to something else and create a new \current directory.  Not exactly automated, but it sounds like it would be far easier than what you're doing now.
