formating tapes

i have tapes with 20 GB size. i installed BE new on a W2K-Server; now the size of the tapes is only 16 MB; how can i format them new or delete all files; Streamer is Tandberg slr7.

select the tape you want to erase/format, right-click on it and select "delete media (fast)" or "delete media (slow)". Im using the german version, pls check the exact command at your version!

Until BackupExec reaches the end of tape marker for a tape volume, it really doesn't know how what the capacity is.

You can do a long erase on new tape volumes, if you insist on your reports showing the correct capacity, but it will take quite a while for each one.

the tapes were in use by BE before i installed BE once again on the server. is it possible to erase/delete the old files by "short erase"?

Hello,

since you want to delete the contents on the tape it is recommended that you do a long erase.
After a long erase please do an inventory.

Also please check whether the device is listed as "tested" in the compatibility list below.

If yes then please install the latest veritas drivers with the help of the link below:

If not tested then please install latest device manufacturers drivers
