How to configure/enable Backup Exec Library Option on our Backup Exec 2010 R2?

What are the necessary steps for Backup Exec to recognize robotic library on the Quantum Superloader 3.

Hello Jay,

To configure Backup exec Library option all you need is the Library expansion option License (If you have a Tape library with 2 or more tape drives you will need the Library expansion option License)

Also for Backup exec to see the Library properly in the console you need to make sure that the Tape Library is being detected in the Windows device manager, and all the tape drives should have Symantec drivers.

To install Symantec drivers you can follow the Wizard within the Backup exec console...Tools-->Wizards-->Device configuration wizard.

If you haven't install Backup exec, then Make sure the Tape library is connected to the server and once you install Backup exec, it will detect the device and apply the drivers for the Tape drive.

This should resolve your issue..

Please don't forget to mark this as a solution!

Thanks!

You need to run the hardware configuration wizard to recognize the library and tape drive(s) within BackupExec

If you only have one tape drive in the library, then you do not need an LEO, as BackupExec supports one Library with one drive out of the box.

If you add additional drives in the first library, then you need one LEO for each additional drive  (ie 1 LEO for two drives, 2 LEO for three drives,  etc)  You also need an LEO if you add a second library with one drive

Also, if you are using windows 2003 server as media server, make sure that RSM service is stopped and disabled. Otherwise it will take control of the library device and create problems to BE in detecting/properly configuring the device.
