installing new version of backupexec in different server using sam tape library

i have a version of backup exec (2009) that run in a server with tape library. I am going to install a new version of backup exec (for hyper V) in different server but i will use the same tape library. Can i do that without loosing the old backup or i have to use new tapes ?

Your tape library should be connected to the server where you are installing Backup Exec.

You may use the existing tapes, before restoring any old data you will have to either copy catalogs

from the existing server or run catalog job on the tapes.

Data will remain intact as far as you dont ovewrite the tape

Yes You May use the Old backup sets.

You need to either recatalog the tapes or need to copy the catalogs folder from the old server to the new server
