inventory issue in backup exec

hi all

        i have a question would like to ask regarding on inventory in backup exec, everyday i have to go to "devices" -> click "inventory" and erase in order to recognize the tape, otherwise backup wont be started, anyway to do to skip this procedure ? i want to do it like, put in tape, and when it reachs the backup time, it will  start backuping itself , thanks !

If you have a stand alone tape drive instead of a libary then in theiory every time you change the tape an inventory wil be required.

If you have to do an erase though that sounds like your media sets have the wrong overwrite protection period

For instance if you use a tape on a Monday and want to use it the next Monday - don't set the Overwrite Protection Period to 7 days - as the 7 days starts at the end of the job - so assuming the job takes (for example)11.5 hours to run then the overwrite protection would need to be 6.5 days (approx) or the media will not be overwriteable at teh start of the same job a week later.
