Dear all,
Server Configuration as below: ( All servers join domain AD 1 except HR server)

Server                              Purpose                                      Backup Targets                                       Remarks
=============================================================================
AD 1                                 Primary Domain Controller                AD
AD 2                                 Backup Domain Controller,               AD                                           Connect with tape library (fibre), SAN backup domain server
HR Server                       Standalone, installed SQL server    Database
Web server 1                  File + Web server,                               Files stored at SAN Storage SAN member
Web server 2                  File + Web server                                Files stored at SAN Storage SAN member
(Note: Web server 1 + Web server 2 form cluster to prevent failure)
Development                                                                                 Local files backup to tape

How many licenses should I bought? The below are correct? Thanks.

SYMC BACKUP EXEC 2010 SERVER WIN PER SERVER                                                    6
SYMC BACKUP EXEC 2010 AGENT FOR MSFT ACTIVE DIRECTORY WIN PER DC      2
SYMC BACKUP EXEC 2010 AGENT FOR MSFT SQL                                                             1
SYMC BACKUP EXEC 2010 OPTION SAN SHARED STORAGE WIN PER SERVER       3
SYMC BACKUP EXEC 2010 AGENT FOR WINDOWS SYSTEMS WIN PER SERVER     1

Thomas

OK in your original description you say that AD2 has a tape devices but it is not clear if this is a library with more than one drive or whether some of the other servers will also be performing Backup to disk jobs even if they don't have a tape device.

"SYMC BACKUP EXEC 2010 SERVER WIN PER SERVER" is only used for each server that has a backup device (B2D folder or tape drive)
If you have a library with more than one tape drive you will also need the Library Expansion Option (LEO) licenses

An approriate remote agent license is required to backup any remote servers that will not directly control a tape or backup to disk device - by appropriate we mean if it is just a file server then a RAWS license, if however it is a SQL server you need a SQL license (which also covers the file system of that SQL server)

The Active Directory Recovery Agent license is only needed if you want to perform a Granular recovery from with AD - if you just want to DR AD then a standard remote agent or server license is all that is needed.

Also the San Shared Storage Option is used to Share a tape library between servers if your library is only connected to one media server you don't need this. We can't share disk based SAN storage using SSO.

One final comment Remote Agent Backups are not SAN aware so all data would be transfered over the LAN (or a backup LAN) between the remote and media servers. SAN backups need either a shared library with full media server installations or need an offhost configuration using the ADBO option and additonal software or hardware.

The above makes it difficult to fully answer your question as there is not enough information about the numbers of tape devices, which servers will access the tape devices and which servers are connected via the same SAN to a tape device etc.

SYMC BACKUP EXEC 2010 SERVER WIN PER SERVER                                                    4  - for AD2, 2 x web server and Development. I assume that your Development server has an attached tape drive.

SYMC BACKUP EXEC 2010 AGENT FOR MSFT ACTIVE DIRECTORY WIN PER DC     If you don't need to do any granular restore of AD objects, then you don't need ADRA.  If you do granular restore, you can make do with 1 licence if you can afford to wait for the restore to propagate to the other AD server. .

SYMC BACKUP EXEC 2010 AGENT FOR MSFT SQL                                                             1 - for HR server.  This comes with a RAWS licence.

SYMC BACKUP EXEC 2010 OPTION SAN SHARED STORAGE WIN PER SERVER       3 - for AD2 and 2 x web server.

SYMC BACKUP EXEC 2010 AGENT FOR WINDOWS SYSTEMS WIN PER SERVER      1 - for AD1

If Development does not have a tape drive, then you can use a remote agent to back it up.  Likewise, with AD1, it is backed up using a remote agent.

Thanks for your reply. If development doesn't have tape drive and if we want AD1 backup too??
One more question, if I need both 6 servers install different options / agents, each server must have backup EXEC 2010 Server Win per server (it means total 6 in quantity) ? Thanks.

According to the reply
- Does HR server just purchase SQL agent is enough and don't need "SYMC BACKUP EXEC 2010 SERVER WIN PER SERVER"??
- If remote agent should be purchased for development server to backup files to AD 2's tape, license of "SYMC BACKUP EXEC 2010 SERVER WIN PER SERVER" is needed to buy too??
- Under what situation, "SYMC BACKUP EXEC 2010 SERVER WIN PER SERVER" must be bought with agent??

Thanks.

Actually only 1 tape library (TS3100 IBM) exists and it connects to AD2.
Thanks for all your comments but meets a problem here:
I just want to install AD Recovery agent on AD1 but wizard needs me to enter key for backup exec 2010 too (same when installing SQL agent).  Is it correct procedure or I do it wrong? Thanks for all your advices.

For BE, you install the licence on the BE media server and this will activate the option, SQL, AD, etc.  When you push out the agent to the remote server, it will be able to use that activated option.
