"The connection to target system has been lost"

Backup Exec remote agent fails to backup the Shadow Copy Components, and produces this message:
 
Backup - \\10.10.10.2\Shadow?Copy?Components \\10.10.10.2\Shadow?Copy?Components
The connection to target system has been lost. Backup set canceled.
 
The server is standalone.  Backup Exec is able to backup the files without a problem.  Anybody have an idea how to resolve this one?
