Hi, I would like to restore the Exchange 5.5 to a stand by server in case the production one is failed to start due to hardware problem, then we will only need to restore the DS, IS to the standby server.

1. What will be the exactly the steps?
2. Currently the tape device is attached to the production server. Therefore we will have to install the Backup Exec to the standby server. How the tape media will be recognized by the standby server.

Thanks in advance.

Have you looked at the Microsoft Documentation for both DisasterRecovery and Single Mailbox recovery?

See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;813337

Says it's for Exchange2000, but should be good for 5.5 as well

I know the way how Microsoft restore from NTbackup, but It would be nice to know how Veritas handle this kind of task.

Thanks,
Fshguo.

Here's Exch5.5 version:

I wouldn't worry about Veritas. As long as you have the same tape drive and media (and the same version of Veritas BackupExec on both machines) you should be in good shape.

Your bigger challenge is to figure out how to smoothly introduce the "stand-by" server into the production environment.
