server does not pick up remote agents

I am not able to select remote agents to create a job on the server. If I go under remote selections, the machines do not show up. I tried enabling file and print sharing on the machines but that did not make a difference. One machine is on the same logical network and the other is not.

I guess the simple question maybe to ask, which you may have already checked is if you have Server 2003, is the firewall blocking the ports from opening to allow the server to see the remotes... There might be other things also, but we needed to allow ports to be opened for BE to see and talk to the agent on other boxes..

the software firewall for server 2003 is disabled.

Do the RemoteAgent serials show as installed on the media server?
Is the BERemote service indeed running on the two remote machines?
Can you ping both ways by both IP and Machine name?

Hi,

-- Check if the remote servers are accessible through "MIcrosoft Windows Network" .

-- Ensure that RAWS is installed and running successfully on all suspected remote servers:

-- Also refer this technote:
All selections for a remote server in Backup Exec 9.x and 10.x for Windows Servers are unavailable for selection.

I verified that the services are installed correctly and running and no other applications are using port 10000. However, the two machines on the same network do not show up under the microsoft windows network but I can ping them by machine name. If I add a user defined selection on the server of the machine ip address, I am still not able to select the remote server to backup. I also made sure that the serial number for the remote agents are installed on the server.Message was edited by:

Hello,

Since you have mentioned that you cannot see the server under Windows n/w there seems to be a problem with the n/w connection.
Hence we request you to first resolve this and then get back to us.

Thanks,
