We are a networking consultant firm and we have several sites that are running backup exec. Mostly 11D. All of these sites have been configured for quite a while and have always run fine. Recently several of the sites are having the same errors. The backup jobs are always set to overwrite yet recently a lot of the tapes are reading as full so the job gets stuck waiting for a second tape. The amount of data has not changed so the tapes should still be a suitable size. As I stated the sites are all different clients with different network configurations with different tapes and drives. The jobs are always set to overwrite and the retension period is usually set to 1 hr so if the data is older than it can overwrite it. Some of the sites have new tapes and some are using tapes that have been in use for a little while. In a media set there may be 2 of 5 that read full or 1 of 5 or 4 of 5. It is pretty inconsistent. Was there any update recently that change something that might cause this. If it was just one site I would first consider an issue in how the job and media was set up, but most of these sites have been running fine and there have been no changes to the settings and no large increase in the amount of data that is being backed up.
Would really appreciate any hints of what might be causing this.
