Backing up closed partitions ...

Hey all,

I have some concerns about backing up closed partitions.  I open a new partition every month to keep my backup windows under control.  Collections run 3 months after a message was archived.  Article 285006 kind of scares me a little as I only back up the closed partitions at the end of the year.

My understanding is that if I only backup July's Partition (Called AA) at the end of the month, this means that SQL will think the files are in the Partition AA directory and not collected.  If I have a disaster in November, SQL thinks those messages have been collected (since it's past the 3 months).  If I restore SQL and EV from latest backup, my RPO is 24hrs max.  But I have to restore all the old partitions to rebuild the file system.  This means I have to restore July's backup which has the messages loose in Partition AA.

If I try to access those files after the restore, I'm sure I'll have some sort of SQL or EV errors, right?

What is everyone else doing for backing up their old partitions?

Thank you!
PM.
