Can't search for terms like "123-456" in message body?

Hello,

We have many archived messages with terms like "123-456" (without quotes)  in the message body.

What is the correct format to search for this literal term using the Advanced or Browser search please? I know that -456 can mean "exclude 456" from the results, but that's not what we want.

FYI if we search for "123-456" or 123"-"456 in the subject line, it finds messages with "123-456" in the subject line. However, the same format doesn't work for when that value is in the message body.

Thanks,

- Alan.

What version of EV?  If you search for a word in the content does that work?

It sorta sounds as if Indexing was set to brief for those items if you can not search for a word either.

Have you tried using a wildcard?

You could try 123* or 123?456

Also, what is your level of Indexing?

Try 123.456

... and they only seem to work in the subject field. Also tried escaping the minus with slashes, using single- and double-quotes but no luck.

Indexing is on medium.

I can search for 123 in the text and it finds it no problem. It really is the minus sign that's causing the problem. There must be some strange character to escape it?

Indexing was always on medium since installation.

What about using "123" "456" on the same line with a space in between?

Thanks,
Dennis

Using "123" "456" just gives any docs with either term.

try creating a test mailbox , enable it with full level indexing and see if that resolves your issue
if it does, you should rebuild your indexes to have full and not medium indexing
