Changing retention categories in Domino

As far as I know, there's no easy way to change a retention category for an item archived from a Domino mail file.  I know you can restore an item and re-archive it into a retention folder, but it leaves the original in the archive with the original retention category and adds the item again with the new retention category.

Does anyone know of a method or 3rd party product that will update the retention category of Domino shortcuts when they're moved to a retention folder?

Unfortunaltey updateable metadata is not currently available in the product. It is on the roadmap.

Would it help you if you could change the retention period of the existing category?

Also going forward you may be able to use retention folders. But if a user moves the shortcut again the shortcut won't get updated either.

They have some retention folders in place, but the problem is that some of the items they want to put in retention folders are already archived.

We're trying to come up with another method that will work for them.
