You shouldn't compress the files in the index locations. If you are running out of space, you can follow one of the suggestion I mentioned:

(1) You can move some indexes to another drive. In order to this, you can just go the archive properties and move the index volume folder to another location:

How to Change the index location for one archive
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH68491

(2) If you want to move the entire index location, you can follow this TN:

How to move the Index Location to a Different Location on a Different Server
http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO82325 (This TN is for EV 10)

How to move Enterprise Vault (EV) indexes that are managed by the same EV server .
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH35596 (This TN is for EV 9)

In addition, you could increase the space in the drive if the drive is a LUN in a SAN storage.

I hope this helps.

Sorry, you'll have to explain what stuff you have on there, apart from the Enterprise Vault index data that is...

Hello Ryan,

Do you have any other data than Enterprise Vault indexes on this drive? If your indexes are consuming a lot of space in your drives, you can change the indexing level to brief if you have them set to full, but keep in mind that this change will require to rebuild the indexes. Also, here are the differences between each indexing level:

Indexing levels explained
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH35612

If what you are looking for is to reduce the space used, you can move some indexes to another drive. In order to this, you can just go the archive properties and move the index volume folder to another location. If you want to move the entire index location, then you can follow this TN:

How to move the Index Location to a Different Location on a Different Server
http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO82325 (This TN is for EV 10)

What you should NOT do is delete data from the indexes drives unless you want to cause a big issue in your Enterprise Vault servers :)

I hope this helps.

Hi All,

My current issue is that the the drive used by evault index is almost full. Arround 4% free. This is the only items on this drive. Is there a way to compress the index file or do I have to move it on the another drive?

If index drive is reaching to maximum, it's best plan to move indexes to another location which have sufficient disk space because I don't think there is compression for index files.

For EV 10, Refer TN "How to move the Index location to a different location on the same server" http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO59084

For EV 9.0.X or earlier, Refer TN http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH35596

Yes, I do think Moving index location to a storage with sufficient disk space would be the better option.

As compression is not supported with Index files.

Also what level of Indexing we have set on the Archives. ?

There are also steps in the community blog section of the forum that might help with moving the index of one, two..handful of archives.
