Mailbox Quoter full

Hi All

Just a quick question with regards to Mailbox quoter, If a user mailbox is full will EV be able to Sync that mailbox and would you be able to archive items via the store in vault button?

Reason being is that I have a user who's mailbox is full but I can't sync, archive or store in vault.

Thanks

Rob

EV needs to be able to be able to write to the mailbox
A synchronization is the deletion of a message and re-creation of the message
Archiving is changing properties of an item (or if you dont delete original it will be a copy of the message)

And you can't do any of this with the Send/Receive limit being breached
EV Can archive with the Send Limit being breached, but as soon as the receive is breached then EV will only work in a read only capacity for the user, except for OWA as the user will need to have the ability to have items written to the deleted folder

Thanks for the reply

So the fact that a sync can not go through has nothing to do with the mailbox being full as that is a hidden message associated to the users mailbox? Or is the hidden message associated to the mailboxes size?

The hidden message is really like any other message within Outlook, it just happens to be hidden.
So what will happen is that Enterprise Vault will connect to the mailbox and attempt to overwrite the message itself in the users mailbox (at the top of the information store) however the when it attempts to save the item, if the Recieve Limit has been breached then it will fail with an 0x8004060c error that you will see in your event logs.

The only things that won't be impacted for the user are reading from Archive Explorer, Search.asp, Virtual Vault and opening shortcutted items.

The user will not be able to Archive items (either automatically or manually) or Restore items (either through Outlook, Search or AE) or be able to view items through Outlook Web Access (as it will place the item to be read in the Deleted Items folder, again as a hidden message)

however when you open items through the shortcut in outlook, it will download the message outside of the mailbox.

This though is a really good case for Virtual Vault, as the user could just drag and drop items from the inbox, to the virtual vault and then perform a synchronization to upload the items directly to the users Archive

JW2 is right... except that when a synch happens we don't overwrite the existing message, we delete the current one, and put in a new one... it's the putting in of the new one which fails, so the net result is that the user appears to not be enabled (because the old one was deleted).  This is under discussion to be changed in a feature version.. but at the moment it can have this (undesirable) side effect.
