V9 Outlook add-in question

We just upgraded from EV version 7.5 to 8.0 SP4. We are going to upgrade to version 9.0 next. Question is can I install the Version 9 Outlook add-in client prior to installing version 9 on the server. Right now all clients are still running version 7 of the Outlook add-in with no trouble. If I can skip installing the 8 add-in and go right to 9 it would save a lot of trouble. Thanks in advance

Yes, the client has forward and backward compatability.  Check the compatibility matrix for confirmation.  Caveat, you will only have those features that are supported by the EV server level when using a forward compatibile client.

Staying on the V7 client, you're on shakey ground, and you should upgrade (to the 9.0.2 Cumulative HF in my opinion) :
