Virtual Vault - Delete folder?

DrDave

Not able to right-click delete on a folder in the Virtual Vault, is this by design? We have a lot of users with redundant folders and some just want to re-organise.

DrDave,

Pritty much what John says,  you can delete from VV, but the folder needs to be deleted in your mailbox and you will need to allow deletions in Enterprise Vault.

What happens when you try and right click?  Is there an error message?

You can delete folders from your VV with a right-click, or a hard delete, however the folder must not exist in your mailbox.

If you delete the folder in your mailbox, you must then do a VV/VC sync, then the archive task must run Shortcut processing (usually during the next archiving run), then another VV/VC sync must be performed.  You can then delete the folder from VV.

Just to correct what Wayne said earlier.

You can delete VV folders but only if the folder doesn't exist in your mailbox hierachy.

By this I mean, if you're trying to delete a folder called \TEMP on the root of your mailbox, you can only delete it from your VV if the folder has been deleted from your mailbox root. You will also have to wait for VV to sycnh up and also for the EV server to have run a scheduled archive. Basically there's no point in deleting a folder if it already exists in your mailbox because it will get re-created in your VV when EV next synchs with the mailbox. If your EV isn't configured to allow deletes, then you can't delete folders in your VV......BUT.....you can rename them, so you could create a VV folder called something like ZZJUNK and just move any unwanted folders there.

Hope this helps explain things, we are also working on a Best Practice doc for VV and promise to have it out very soon.

Cheers
Glenn
