indexing

I have an Index that is set as 'closed' but the data is still growing in size, and the disk will soon run out of space.

Why is it still growing?

What can we do to stop it?

Project Man. When an Index is closed, this means that no new archives will use it for Indexing.  However,  all archives which were indexed into that index, will continue to use it.  So any changes to already archived mailboxes which use that index, will continue to make changes to it... Therefore you will see it continue to grow, albiet slower than if it were open.  You can not stop this.  You would need to move the index to a location with more room..
