Drive in AVR mode

Hi,

A new library SL500 is added into the Backup domain. There is 4 LTO4 Drives and a old LTO3 drive in the SL500 library. For all the media servers, the newly added drives are seen as AVR whereas for SAN Media servers, the newly added drives are up.

 

The new SL500 was configure as TLD control. Netbackup version is 6.0MP4 and OS is Solaris 9.

 

Please help.

AVR means comms problem with Robot Control Host or drive configured as Standalone.

More info please:

Is this an SSO environment with the Master or one of the media servers configured as robot control host?

Which method was used to update device config? Did you use the device config wizard? Did you select all media servers?  Was NBU Device Management daemons restarted on all media servers at the end of device discovery?

Please do the following from robot control host for all media servers:

# /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/vmoprcmd -d -h <media-server>

The above will verify comms as well as status.

Thanks for the reply. The enviroment is SSO and Master server is configured as robot control host.

We are using device config wizard to discover the devices and have selected all media servers.

After using wizard, Device Management daemons had restarted on all media and SAN media servers.

I even restart the SL500 tape library and rebooted 1 of the mdeia server.

Below  are the vmoprcmd output from master server:

Please run robtest command and check if robot is accessed from master server..

I understand SAN Media server drives are not in AVR mode 

please provide output of following commands

nbemmcmd -listhosts -verbose

vmoprcmd

I find it weird that only one drive is in AVR status. I doubt that it's a licensing issue.

Please run the following on this media server:

/usr/openv/volmgr/bin/tpconfig -l

This will tell us if drive index 7 has the correct ACS address.

I suspect Drive 7 ( TPC_LTO15 ) is coming from different robot , As i said in earlier post did you try robtest command from robotic control host and check if robot is being sensed

Why the mismatch between tpconfig and vmoprcmd output? This normally happens when daemons were not restarted after device config.

vmoprcmd -d -h bkup3svr1  showed 8 tape drives - 7 ACS and 1 AVR.

This output :

root@bkup3svr1:/usr/openv/volmgr $ /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/tpconfig -l

shows one TLD robot (control on bkupmas1) and one tape drive. Robotic drive should be indented - not in line with 'robot', as if it's standalone. This explains the AVR status.

No ACS robot is defined on bkup3svr1. Each media server with drives in ACS robot needs to have this robot defined.

Please try the following on media server bkup3svr1:

Use tpconfig (without any options); use the menu options to delete robot 1 and drive TPC_LTO15.

Exit from tpconfig, then restart NBU daemons on bkup3svr1.
Check bpps -x output. Only 'vmd' should be running under "MM Processes".

Rerun device config wizard and only select bkup3svr1.
Check and verify 'bpps -x' output, as well as 'tpconfig -l' plus 'vmoprcmd -d'.

Hi Amit,

You are right, TPC_LTO15 is new drive from SL500 library. The rest of the drive are from L-180 library.

 

In bkup3svr1, we have combine of drive from ACS and TLD. SL500 configure as TLD and L-180 is control as ACS.

From robotic control host

take path of your newly added changer  with following command

/usr/openv/volmgr/bin/scan -changer | grep 'Device Name'

and run following command

echo "s s" | /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/tldtest -r <robotic path>

that means there are no hardware issues with that library/drive/..

Marriane is right,delete that drive with tpconfig -delete -drive <drive index> and then perform device configuration

Shared Drive is showing AVR status for one host. i dont have access to that host!!! anything can be done from masterserve.
