Is there a way to prune the catalog

Hi,

I am preparing for a DR exercise. Previously it took us 4 hours to restore the catalog. But the data restoration only took 1 hour.

Hence we are wondering whether it is possible to selectively only restore the server.

In addition wondering whether you can archive the db and database.

This means that I will use 1 catalog tape for catalog before Aug 2008. I will remove the files and new catalog after Aug 08.

Just a thought.

Thanks!

I will not recommend it, but have you shrink your DB? what type of images are u using ASCII or BIN? this can make a big difference in size.

Hi, can you elaborate the ways to check on the shrinking part and the type of images.

I looked at the catalog database format but I couldn't tell the difference :)

check the NetBackup Administrator's Guide section entitled "Archiving the catalog".  This should meet your needs.  Works well for us.  We had the same issue at our last DR test.
