LTO3 Tuning Guides for Faster Tape Drives

Was wondering if anyone had any tuning parameters, ideas on what tuning can be done to fully-utilize the speed of the newer/faster tape drives using Netbackup. Understanding CPU, Network, etc. are factors - thinking of buffer sizing parameters, etc....

I suggest (for a start) you read the article written by George Winter which is available from this VERITAS link. You will see the article at the bottom of the page titled "VERITAS NetBackup Software Performance Tuning"
http://eval.veritas.com/downloads/van/van_news_nov_i.htm Click on the "Read More" button and it will bring up a pdf document.

Unfortunately this is an older document. I too would like to see something that deals with larger/faster I/O, disk storage and disk staging.

This won't help much, but I have found that the data buffer size for an LTO2 should be 256K, so I would definitely start there

. If I could get my hands on an LTO3 for a while, it would be fun to set up a lab to figure out what the best setting would be.
